ERS Medical wins contract with NHS Fife to reduce 999 calls

In a bid to reduce the large number of unnecessary ambulance call outs, NHS Fife has awarded ERS Medical a three year contract to provide an out of hours (OOH) driver service for GPs.

The partnership was launched on the 1st of April 2014 offering an alternative for patients needing medical assistance outside of normal surgery opening hours. The OOH driver service will enable GPs to visit patients at home when ambulance assistance is not required.

Operating between 6pm – 8am Monday to Thursday and from 6pm on Friday to 8am on Monday, the new service will ensure that all patients have access to a high level of medical assistance at their home address.

NHS Fife’s initial requirement set to find a company that could provide reliability, sustainability and innovations, in which ERS Medical was able to demonstrate its full range of capabilities.

ERS Medical said: “We are very pleased to be working with NHS Fife helping them to deliver an OOH driver service to their patients. This contract is of significant importance to ERS Medical as it our first within Scotland and moving forward we hope to work in collaboration with more trusts in this region to improve patient care.”

Team Leader David Blair (pictured) will look after the day to day running of the contract. The OOH GP service is now available for all patients residing in the Fife area and ERS Medical will be working closely with NHS Fife to continually develop and improve patient services.
