Event roundup: The Commissioning Show 2014

ERS Medical exhibited at the Commissioning Show on 25th and 26th June. The two-day show, the largest of its kind for the health and care sector, saw an excess of 7,000 industry professionals visit Excel, London for an extensive programme of speakers, debates and networking opportunities.

The show presented the ERS Medical team with excellent opportunities to meet industry peers and leading healthcare organisations who share our vision for integrated patient care. We also had one of our brand new fully-equipped wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV) on the stand to symbolise our national coverage across patient transport, healthcare mail and courier services and our fully managed transport services offering.

Some of the key conversation themes at the show were around how commissioners still face huge pressures in their health economies, but are gradually seen to be coming on top of the reorganisations of the last few years. Integrated care was also a focus, with particular focus around how independent service providers can provide value to the NHS.

Improving patient communications and care by using innovative technologies was also a popular topic of conversations with some of the CCGs that we spoke with. As well as speaking to customers from across the NHS, it was also useful to wander the hall and get a sense of the general direction of products and services being offered to commissioners. No surprises here – there was a big emphasis on care outside of traditional healthcare settings. Having said that, the company that was showing us how a drone could deliver first aid in hard to reach places did raise a few eyebrows!

Overall, there was no doubt amongst exhibitors and commissioners alike that the next big phase of healthcare development in the UK will be a shift out of large secondary care institutions and into the community. And we’re very proud to say that we will be supporting the NHS as they make this transition.

P.S: If you dropped by to take some pictures of yourself with our new vehicle, don’t forget to tweet us @ERSMedical!
