New medical pick and pack warehouse in Ipswich

ERS Medical has unveiled a new medical pick and pack warehouse in Ipswich. Officially opened by Ipswich MP Tom Hunt at a formal launch event, the 3000 sq. ft. warehouse is used to provide an end-to-end service of picking, packing and delivering medical consumables to nearly 300 GP Practices in Ipswich and Colchester and to the main A&E hospitals in the area.

With 29 vehicles and 33 dedicated staff, this new warehouse is a vital addition to deliver the medical courier service to East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT). Orders are placed via an online portal, verified by the Trust and then delivered by ERS Medical. The ERS Medical team in Ipswich is also responsible for regular stock taking to ensure there are no disruptions to the essential supply of over 84 key stock lines including high-turnaround medical items such as swabs, sample bottles and syringe components.

Guests who were invited to the opening event were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the warehouse.

At the official launch event, MP Tom Hunt said: “As well as creating 33 new jobs, the ERS Medical courier service is an important cog in the healthcare system. There are over 300 locations relying on them to pick, pack and deliver – including 35 orders a day to Ipswich hospital.

They have also played a significant role in delivering COVID-19 and flu vaccines in temperature-controlled courier vehicles, and supporting the vaccine roll out in schools. Thank you to the team at ERS Medical who have been providing a vital service, keeping the whole system moving.”

Andrew Pooley, Chief Executive at ERS Medical, adds: “This site further expands our presence in the South and it has also created 33 more jobs for Ipswich – filled by people locally who have the knowledge of the area, which is so important in delivering such a service. I am proud of the team there and the fantastic service they deliver to our customer.”
